Investment Themes
We invest at the intersection of planetary health, social wellbeing, and intersectional innovation — backing companies that protect our environment, advance equity, and break down the silos holding progress back.
Planetary Health
Reduce Greenhouse Gases
Greenhouse gas emissions are the largest contributor to climate change, and we must take immediate action to reduce them in the near term. We invest in technologies that reduce our society’s overreliance on fossil fuels via clean sources of energy (solar, wind, nuclear, geothermal) as well as new ways to produce, store, and use low-carbon electricity. We also invest in technologies that make manufactured goods and materials, transportation, and buildings less carbon intensive.
Protect Ecological Integrity
Nature is a precious resource, and humankind must exist in relationship with natural systems. It is critical to invest in technologies that buy the planet more time as we reduce carbon emissions and preserve delicate, interconnected ecosystems. We invest in solutions that improve the health of critical ecosystems, especially oceans and forests. We also invest in companies that promote biodiversity and a more circular economy.
Social Well Being
Educate for the Future
Education is a powerful tool for social and economic mobility; however, access is stratified by income level, geography, and demographics. This is mirrored in the workforce, limiting access to quality jobs and wealth generation. We invest in technologies that improve educational outcomes via increased teacher retention, improved attendance, and stronger student engagement for pre-K through high school students. We also invest in companies that facilitate up-skilling and workforce development.
Bridge the Wealth Gap
Access to sound financial products and wealth building opportunities are not broadly accessible and utilized. We invest in technologies that improve access to affordable housing, support small business owners, and empower users to build financial stability. We also invest in fintech that is ethically designed for low- and middle-income customers.
Advance Health Equity
All humans deserve preventative healthcare as well as access to quality care when they are sick or injured. We invest in companies that are solving disparities in healthcare outcomes or providing greater access to critical services. Within this category, we are especially interested in solutions designed by and for groups that have historically had less access to high-quality healthcare.
Intersectional Innovation
Champion Climate Justice
As our world warms, marginalized communities will be disproportionately affected by food scarcity, extreme weather events, and the loss of biodiversity. We are motivated by solutions created by and for those most affected by climate change. Within climate justice, we invest in solutions in healthcare, workforce development, and climate mitigation.
Heal Food Systems
Our food systems are broken and require new business models and technologies. The production of food is intertwined with human health outcomes, climate change adaptation, and economic empowerment. We invest in solutions that promote healthier, resilient, and sustainable food systems; this includes AgTech, regenerative farming solutions, and digital solutions facilitating more local and efficient food systems.
