Investing in Retirable
by Emma Leavy
This summer, Gratitude Railroad invested in Retirable’s $10M Series A. Retirable is a retirement planning platform serving low- and middle-income Americans entering decumulation, or the stage when retirees draw on their savings and investments for living expenses. Through its AI-enabled platform, Retirable provides fiduciary advice and tools for saving, investing, and decumulation, helping retirees often overlooked by traditional wealth managers. Learn more about Retirable’s impact in their recent Good Morning America segment.
Bridging the Wealth Gap
Retirement readiness remains one of the most persistent financial challenges facing the U.S. population, particularly for middle- and lower-income Americans. While the number of Americans reaching retirement age continues to grow, access to quality financial advice and planning remains unequally distributed. Just 20% of lower-income adults engage with financial advisors, compared to 54% of upper-income adults. This disparity in access to financial advice has material implications for retirement savings and long-term financial stability. Financial advice is linked to confidence, stress reduction, and long-term financial literacy when controlling demographic factors.
Why We Invested in Retirable
Differentiated Technology
Retirable’s technology platform uses AI to meaningfully reduce the cost to serve lower asset clients. Retirable’s technology suite was custom built to meet the needs of low-to-middle-income retirees and contributes to its first mover advantage. This platform allows Retirable’s financial advisors to effectively manage large books of business.
Strong Investor Syndicate and Team
This round is being led by IA Capital, an insur-tech and fin-tech firm with a 25-year track record and includes notable new investors such as Clocktower Ventures, Western Southern, and Impact Engine. Retirable is led by Tyler End (CEO), Ian Yamey (CTO), and Sami Boghos (COO), a well-balanced and driven executive team who have demonstrated a deep knowledge of the retirement market and commitment to serving low-and-middle-income clients.
Positive Client Reception in Large and Underserved Market
Retirable is operating in a large market with low penetration and limited competition; 60% of Retirable clients have never spoken to a financial advisor. We view Retirable’s highly positive customer feedback as an indicator that it is filling a gap in the market. Its product, which replicates the experience of receiving a monthly paycheck for its clients, was custom designed for the needs of its target customer.
