2026 Summer Newsletter: Building for the Future
Nothing contained in the newsletter is intended to be, nor should anything included herein be considered, a guarantee of future performance of any industry, asset class, or security.
Dear Friends and Collaborators,
At Gratitude Ventures, we are building for the future.
This newsletter reflects on the work we have collectively done over past six months. We also want to announce some organizational milestones that reflect our growth and trajectory.
First, we have refreshed our name and are now operating as Gratitude Ventures. Our legal entities have been renamed to match—Gratitude Ventures Group LLC and Gratitude Ventures Management LLC—though you will simply see and hear Gratitude Ventures. We have made this change to better communicate our work as an investment manager, while retaining our core brand and history.
Gratitude is as much a part of our work as ever; it reflects how we operate, always starting from a place of being grateful for what we collectively have. Ventures is a nod to our core business line, investing in early- and growth-stage businesses and emerging fund managers. It also encompasses the broader meaning of doing something bold and different, “breaking trail” as we like to say and do. These principles underpinned our work when we were founded over a decade ago, and we remain committed to them today.
We also want to announce that Gratitude Ventures is now the investment manager for the Align Impact Funds (AIF), a fund-of-funds and multi-asset-class portfolio previously managed by Align Impact (which closed earlier this year). We took on this role because of its strategic fit with our evolving investment platform and the opportunity to welcome AIF LPs into our community. We look forward to actively managing this $50+ million portfolio toward the financial and impact objectives it was designed to meet.
Our work has grown in other meaningful ways this year, including increased participation in our community from institutions alongside individuals and families.
All of these updates are part of our greater course. From our origins as a small community of investors committed to deal-by-deal investing, to the broad community and investment firm we are today, we are proud to work toward a future of more growth and impact. We couldn’t have done any of this without the hundreds of partners who venture alongside us—including our founders, Board, Partners Council, portfolio companies and funds, and investors. And for that we are, of course, grateful! For those of you who haven’t yet, we invite you to Join Us!
Warmly,
Rebekah Saul Butler and Thomas Knowles

Investment Updates
Flourish Health
Flourish Health raised a $26 million Series A funding round co-led by Cherryrock Capital, one of our Inclusive Capital Fund managers.
Flourish is tackling one of the most urgent challenges in healthcare by expanding access to intensive, in-home mental health care for children and young adults with complex needs. This new funding will help the team scale its psychiatrist-led care model and bring much-needed support to more families across the country.

Retirable
Retirable opened its second headquarters in Milwaukee, expanding beyond New York following recent growth in its Midwest customer base. The company saw a significant jump in assets under management in the past year and continues to drive toward its mission of a confident, worry-free retirement for everyone.

Fund Spotlight

Kalos Ventures closed its inaugural fund oversubscribed at $78.8 million. Led by Managing Partner Ashley Bittner, Kalos invests in early-stage companies advancing solutions in the workforce, care, and education sectors. We are proud to back a team that understand the importance of the critical care and workforce infrastructure that underpins economic mobility and prosperity for Americans. Read more about why we invested in Kalos.
We acquired an LP stake in Unshackled Ventures Fund I, a 2017 fund backing immigrant-founded technology companies. This investment marks our first LP secondary transaction out of our Inclusive Capital Fund strategy. Led by Manan Mehta, Unshackled Ventures invests in founders at “day one” and removes structural barriers for immigrant founders through visa sponsorship and other support. Read more about our investment in Unshackled.

Voyager Ventures closed a $275 million Fund II to invest in energy, industrials, and climate technology companies foundational to the future economy, bringing the firm’s total AUM to $475 million. Co-founders Sarah Sclarsic and Sierra Peterson bring more than 30 years of combined experience across energy, materials and mobility. We are proud investors in Voyager Select Fund I.
Joint Ventures
Plankton-Gratitude Yield Co.
Plankton-Gratitude Yield Co. (PGY) continues to acquire and energize distributed solar projects throughout the Northeast. The fund now owns 19 assets—six operational and 13 under construction—with more than half of the portfolio in community solar, participating in Massachusetts and New Jersey programs that require meaningful low-income subscriber allocations and guaranteed bill discounts.
All three projects on the Curry College campus in Milton, Massachusetts, are now complete and energized. Plankton Energy, our operating partner, has a full pipeline of projects under development, and we expect the PGY portfolio to be fully developed and operational in the next several quarters.
Every project sits on the built environment we already have, and it is yet another way we are building for the future at a time of heightened energy demand and continued need to lower greenhouse gas emissions.

2026 East Coast Gathering
This April, our East Coast Gathering brought together more than 80 investors, entrepreneurs, and practitioners to explore the ideas surrounding impact investing. Together, we reflected on our own work, the broader impact investing ecosystem, and the financial and social capital that sustains it while engaging in conversations on some of the field’s most pressing opportunities and challenges.
Across the Gathering, participants explored how flexible capital can strengthen resilient food systems, where AI is creating meaningful advantages for mission-driven companies, and what it will take to finance the next phase of the energy transition. Sessions also examined the growing importance of climate literacy in investment decision making and reflected on how a maturing impact investing market is creating new opportunities despite today’s macroeconomic and political headwinds. More than anything, the Gathering reinforced the value of bringing together a community committed to learning, collaboration, and deploying capital to build stronger markets, systems, and communities. Read our blog post for our five key takeaways from the event.

Big Path’s Impact Capitalism Summit
In early June, Gratitude Ventures Managing Partner and Co-CEO Thomas Knowles joined Big Path Capital’s 12th annual Impact Capitalism Summit in Charleston, SC, bringing together leading investors and fund managers to discuss the future of private markets in impact investing. Thomas spoke on a fireside-chat panel, “Selling Smart: When, Why and How LPs are Turning to the Secondary Market,” alongside PJ Deschenes of Confluence Infrastructure Big Path’s Erin Breslawski as moderator. Thomas offered the perspective of an LP that invests on both a primary and secondary basis—buying LP secondaries through select impact GPs—on when secondary sales make sense and how this approach aligns with our investment philosophy.
Sun Valley Forum
Later in June, Thomas was a main-stage panelist at the 11th annual Sun Valley Forum in Sun Valley, ID, an ecosystem-building event centered on nature-based climate solutions that draws philanthropists, entrepreneurs, investors, fund managers, and service providers. His panel, “The Full Stack of Climate & Nature Capital: What’s Actually Scaling,” featured Jay Lipman, Co-Founder & President of Resilience, and Nicole Steele, Director of Climate Policy at Amalgamated Bank, and was moderated by Darlene Campos, Senior Director of Sustainability Strategy at Microsoft. The group examined where climate and nature capital is actually flowing today and where the gaps remain.

Community-Led Events

Impact Banking Events
We partnered with Good Chaos to host both in-person and virtual conversations on activating cash for impact, exploring how investors can align deposits with mission-driven financial institutions while maintaining strong performance. Bringing together leaders from CNote, First Women’s Bank, and Self-Help Credit Union, these discussions highlighted the role of community banks and CDFIs in strengthening local economies and expanded our educational programming around practical, accessible approaches to impact investing.

Social Hour in Philly
In May, we teamed up with Spring Point Partners to host “A Wind Down and Reflection on Collaborative Investing” adjacent to the Total Impact Summit in Philadelphia, bringing some 50 investors and practitioners together at The Hive for a conversation on what impact investor collaboration actually requires. Margot Kane of Spring Point introduced the talk, and our Managing Partner Rebekah Saul Butler facilitated a fireside chat with Kimberlee Cornett of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Beth Bafford, former CEO of Climate United. The conversation went well past the usual celebration of partnership into what makes collaborations succeed, how they go sideways, and how consistently investors underestimate the time, cost, and complexity involved. A thread we kept returning to: collaboration as a risk mitigator and a long-term builder of social capital, and the discipline of knowing your own value add while respecting everyone else’s.

Community Meetup in Chicago
In March, we joined Sankota Capital to co-host a happy hour in Chicago celebrating women-led businesses, impact, and the power of networks. Over drinks and light bites, we shared highlights from our work and heard from Shara Cohen, Founder and CEO of Carallel, a Gratitude Ventures portfolio company founded on the belief that no caregiver should have to walk alone. Shara spoke about Carallel’s growth and the state of the care economy, and a rich conversation followed (along with a good time!).
Bay Area Wine and Climate Event
We gathered members of the Gratitude Ventures community in Menlo Park for an afternoon designed to foster connection while exploring the intersection of climate and wine. The meetup began with a hike at the Stanford Dish, followed by a wine tasting and conversation led by Gratitude Ventures Principal Emma Leavy exploring how climate change is reshaping the wine industry. It was energizing to spend time together, strengthen relationships, and engage in thoughtful discussion about the real-world impacts of climate on agriculture and one of California’s most iconic industries.

LA Lunch with Gratitude Ventures Portfolio Company Founders
In March, we brought members of the Gratitude Ventures community together over lunch for a conversation with two of our portfolio company founders in the women’s health space, Carine Carmy, CEO of Origin, and Lauren Makler, CEO of Cofertility. The conversation explored the evolving women’s health landscape, with both founders sharing insights on the challenges and opportunities shaping the sector, as well as their experiences building mission-driven companies. It was a wonderful opportunity for members to connect with one another while hearing directly from entrepreneurs working to improve access, outcomes, and innovation in women’s health.
Moments to Inspire

In early September, our core staff gathered in Whitefish, Montana, for some valuable time together at one of our semiannual team offsites. Because we work remotely most of the year, these retreats are an important opportunity to reconnect, align on our priorities, and think expansively about the future we’re building together—while perhaps catching a fish or two. We returned excited to carry that momentum through the rest of the year and into 2027. Stay tuned to see what we’re building.
