Learning & Convening

Five Takeaways from Gratitude’s 2025 East Coast Gathering

In September, we brought together more than 100 investors, founders, fund managers, and impact leaders for two back-to-back events: our LP Summit and East Coast Gathering in Brooklyn, NY and Greenwich, CT, respectively.

Gratitude Railroad regularly convenes our core community, in addition to hosting broader events for a more diverse audience, to grow the impact investing ecosystem and the financial and social capital that sustains it. Our LP Summit centered on Gratitude’s work and investments and featured presentations by our portfolio companies and funds. The following day’s East Coast Gathering, co-hosted for the second year with Foundation House, expanded the scope and conversation to focus on a bigger question—how do we move from vision to execution in impact investing?

This key question shaped this year’s theme, “Implementing the Next Trillion.” Throughout the day, we explored a wide range of topics and asked key questions about what’s working, what’s not, and where the real investable opportunities lie.

Here are five insights that stood out and continue to shape how we think about impact:

1.Democratizing Climate Finance Puts Power Into the Hands of Everyday People

Innovative platforms are expanding access to clean energy investments, opening new pathways to finance the energy transition. For example, Climatize is creating more inclusive ways to mobilize capital that drive both decarbonization and equitable participation, with investments starting at $10.

2. Building Resilient Food Systems Is Necessary to Support Sustainable Growth

Transitioning from industrial agriculture to regional, regenerative models requires flexible financing, infrastructure investment, and ecosystem-wide collaboration that supports farmers, processors, and local economies. Strengthening local food systems that center community stakeholders has multiple dimensions of impact, as evidenced through the work of funds such as Gold Leaf Farming, Grounded Capital, and Proofing Station.

3. AI Is an Important Tool for Education Equity

When used thoughtfully, AI can help teachers focus on what matters most: their students. By saving time, reducing bias, and supporting data-driven lesson planning, AI has the potential to expand access to high-quality learning tools. But without care, it can also deepen inequities, underscoring the need for inclusive research and development that ensures better outcomes for all learners.

4. Transforming the Housing Continuum Requires Continuous Innovation

Addressing housing affordability demands creative financing, zoning reform, and community-led approaches that connect housing with workforce development and health. Inclusive housing will only be possible through public, private, and nonprofit collaboration that advances preservation, new development, and services.

5. We Need to Collaborate to Achieve Scaled Impact

The most important takeaway of all is how we can center joint efforts to scale impact. The East Coast Gathering emphasized moving from problem identification to collaborative action, with participants committing to expand community-based investments, strengthen public-private partnerships, and deploy capital toward scalable, inclusive solutions.

Closing Reflection

The East Coast Gathering reaffirmed a simple truth: vision alone doesn’t create impact—execution does. At Gratitude Railroad, we’re honored to partner with investors who use capital as a lever for systemic change. As the next trillion in impact capital comes into view, we aim to direct it toward leaders whose experience, insight, and determination drive scalable solutions where impact and opportunity meet.
